Blue Crab and invasive species: damage from predation and research status

The Blue Crab (Callinectus sapidus): feeding behaviour and reproductive potential in a controlled environment
Abstract
The blue crab poses a threat to the Mediterranean due to the ecological and economic damage it causes. Therefore, it is increasingly important to gather as much information as possible about this species in its new distribution area. One of the highest priority areas, especially in non-native areas, is its feeding behaviour and reproductive potential, including food preferences and intake quantities. The study findings indicate that there are preferences in both quantity and quality, and that the reproductive potential is approximately one million eggs per 100 grams of live weight.
