New Strategies and Future Perspectives for Sustainable Aquaculture in the Mediterranean: Innovation from the European Project “NewTechAqua”
Abstract
The presentation will briefly showcase some of the most important innovations developed in the recently concluded European project “NewTechAqua”, focusing on Mediterranean aquaculture. New feeds, both organic and conventional, new farming systems, including a marine aquaponics system, genetic selection plans, reproduction protocols for emerging species in Mediterranean aquaculture, and new ‘zero waste’ food products have been tested and validated during four years of intensive activity. This success is attributed to the fruitful collaboration among research institutions, universities, and industry companies.
