The traditional seacage salmon farming in Norway is entering a period of transition. Increasing challenges with sealice, escapes and discharge is causing a technology disruption – with the salmon spending more time on land. Norway has been the main technology driver now and in the past and development of landbased farming technology will be no exception.
One of the most intriguing characterisations of the development is the variety of scaling of the projects. From small farm to megafarms of 10.000 tons, they are all being built in Norway these days. With low water consumption and high degree of discharge treatment, the technology is ready to be build anywhere.
