Biography:
Dr. Marica Mezzelani is the project manager of the PHARMASEA project, she works as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences of the Polytechnic University of Marche, Italy. The main research interests are related to the use of marine organisms as bioindicators of chemical pollution and environmental disturbance. Her research activity, within the field of Ecotoxicology, is focused on pharmaceuticals as emerging contaminants in marine ecosystems. A special emphasis is given to investigations on biological responses reflecting the activation of intracellular pathways involved in the metabolism and biotransformation of pharmaceuticals compounds, modulation of the transcriptional profile, redox homeostasis, lipid metabolism and immune system.

Antibiotic resistance (AR) poses a significant threat to global public health, and its spread in aquaculture systems demands urgent attention. This scientific session aims to delve into the multifaceted dimensions of AR in aquaculture, bringing together experts and researchers from the ARENA (https://www.jpi-arena.eu/it/) and other JPI Aquatic Pollutants funded projects (SPARE-SEA, PHARMASEA and NanoTheCAba) to explore challenges and foster sustainable solutions.
